Derwentside Detached Youth Project : Supporting Young People in Our Community.
Derwentside Detached Youth Project (DDYP) is a charitable organisation that works to support young people aged 10–16 years in the Consett and wider Derwentside area. Our main aim is to improve the quality of life for young people, especially those who are "hard to reach." We want to raise their aspirations, build their self-esteem, and offer them new opportunities.
We do this by providing a variety of exciting activities, qualifications, and issue-based solutions. We also focus on improving their physical and emotional well-being and developing their skills, including teaching them about youth safety and how to be environmentally aware. Our work is focused on empowering young people to lead and take ownership of their futures. We listen to what young people need, whether it's related to social activities, health, or education, and we help them achieve their personal goals. We even offer support with things like CV writing, job searching, and crisis support, or just being a friendly face to talk to.
We're incredibly grateful for our current supporters who help us make a real difference, and we're always looking for additional supporters to join our mission, either through financial contributions or by volunteering their time.
What we do
For over 40 years, the Derwentside Detached Youth Project (DDYP) has been meeting young people where they are: in their communities. We build trusting relationships with them and, in turn, offer a comprehensive range of programmes designed to foster personal growth and new opportunities. Our diverse offering, available all year round including school holidays, includes structured youth clubs, engaging educational sessions on a variety of topics, certified short courses that build key skills, and memorable residential trips. We also offer confidential one-on-one guidance and support. We believe in empowering young people to make a real difference, which is why we actively encourage them to become volunteers and take on leadership roles within our projects.
